Friuli Venezia Giulia

Alpine peaks, Adriatic lagoons, and a crossroads of cultures.

Friuli Venezia Giulia sits where Italy meets Austria and Slovenia, and that position shows in everything from its architecture to its food. Trieste, its capital, is a city of grand Habsburg-era cafes and a distinct Central European character rarely found elsewhere in Italy. Inland, the Collio and Colli Orientali hills produce some of Italy’s finest white wines, while the Julian Alps and the Dolomiti Friulane offer serious mountain trekking. Along the coast, the Aquileia archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage listing, preserves one of the best-documented Roman and early Christian settlements in northern Italy.
