The first trekking stage crosses the beautiful Prati d’Angro to Aceretta Pass, offering spectacular views of Pescasseroli and the Marsicano Massif. The route then descends through magnificent beech forests to Pescasseroli, the heart of the Abruzzo National Park. Evening stroll through the historic centre. Dinner and overnight stay.
Today’s hike reaches the Sanctuary of Monte Tranquillo before crossing the panoramic Macchiarvana Plateau, an excellent area for spotting deer and other wildlife. The trail then descends through Valle Fredda to the beautiful Val Fondillo. Dinner and overnight stay.
Starting from the former sawmill, now the Forest Museum, the trail climbs through ancient beech forests to Forca Resuni Refuge at 1,952 metres. After enjoying breathtaking mountain views, the descent leads to Civitella Alfedena, followed by a visit to the Wolf and Lynx Wildlife Centre. Dinner and overnight stay.
A relaxing walk connects the villages of Civitella Alfedena and Barrea, following scenic trails overlooking the beautiful Lake Barrea. Along the way there are excellent opportunities for wildlife observation before visiting the charming medieval village of Barrea. Dinner and overnight stay.
Today’s challenging stage climbs to Monte Greco (2,143 m), the highest point of the trek, offering magnificent views across the Abruzzo National Park. Arrival at Passo Godi for dinner and overnight stay in a mountain refuge. Optional evening walk under the star-filled sky.
The final trekking stage follows ancient shepherds’ paths beneath Monte Marsicano, passing the traditional Stazzo di Ziomas and the colourful meadows of Prato Rosso before returning to Pescasseroli. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay.
