The journey begins just outside Viterbo, with a detour to the ancient Roman ruins of Ponte Camillario. Crossing peaceful woodland and open countryside, the route continues to the ruins of the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria di Forcassi before reaching Vetralla. Dinner and overnight stay.
Starting from the 11th-century Church of San Francesco, the trail crosses the forests of Monte Fogliano, passing the Hermitage of Saint Jerome and the Sanctuary of Madonna di Loreto. After Capranica and the ancient Via Cassia, the route reaches the historic town of Sutri. Dinner and overnight stay.
Leaving behind Sutri’s remarkable Roman amphitheatre and ancient Mithraeum, the walk follows sections of the historic Via Amerina before reaching the spectacular Monte Gelato Waterfalls in the Treja Valley Regional Park. Arrival in Campagnano Romano for dinner and overnight stay.
Today’s stage follows the Via Francigena through the Treja Valley Regional Park towards the enchanting medieval village of Calcata. After exploring its artists’ studios, caves and narrow streets, enjoy the unique atmosphere of this remarkable hilltop village. Overnight stay.
An early morning walk leads to the panoramic meadows of Santa Maria di Castel Vecchio, offering unforgettable sunrise views over the Treja Valley and Calcata. Later, a short transfer to Rignano Flaminio is followed by a train journey to Rome, marking the end of the tour. End of services.
