Lombardia

Lake districts, alps and Franciacorta area.

Lombardia is Italy’s most economically powerful region: and also one of its most scenically varied. Lake Como and Lake Garda offer the classic Italian lake experience: elegant villas, ferry crossings, lakeside walks and mountain backdrops. The Valtellina valley climbs north towards Switzerland through serious alpine terrain. Bergamo Alta is a walled medieval city that most visitors overlook in favour of Milan. And Mantua, in the flat Po plain, is one of Italy’s most underrated Renaissance cities.
